So the last reenactment has come, and I'm moving on to new stuff, new costumed events, new books -  new everything - at 80.

Chadd's Ford and Sandi Johnson showed what an ideal historical event should be.
How I wish that all event planners knew the essentials listed below:
  • Music in several venues on the site - or even just one! But you have to have it. No exceptions allowed, even if period music plays over the sound system.
  • Tents/vendors far enough apart that snores and sales pitches are not heard by neighbors
  • The "new" extra-size porta-johns wherein a lady en costume feels comfortable should her skirts touch the perfectly dry floor.
  • Multiple food sources.
  • A clear radio-announcer-type voice narrating the timeline of the battle during the reenactment.
  • One cannot emphasize enough that cheap sound systems don't help anyone!

  • Almost never does a promoter reach out after the event, but Sandi did. I was unable to suggest anything to improve... except maybe Sunday's weather....
